FOREST MANAGEMENT

Forest management, in the twenty-first century, involved more than just harvesting trees for income. It requires that professional foresters recognize how forest management impacts forest health, wildfire, soils, and water quality; and how forestry can be used as a tool to improve and protect the other natural resources while still meeting landowner goals and objectives.

Determining the client's short and long-term goals is the first step in implementing management on a forested property. This input guides the level of inventory of the forest ecosystem and depth of analysis. The resulting database provides the foundation for developing scientifically sound silvicultural prescriptions which can be incorporated into a forest management plan and implemented on-the-ground.

The key to sustainable forest management is a management plan which provides direction, continuity and consistency in achieving short- and long-term goals. SEC tailors the management plan to the specific property completely with recommendations and priorities so that the plan serves as a dynamic working tool.

However, the best written forest management plan is no better than the quality of its implementation.  SEC's foresters apply their years of experience in contract preparation and administration to assure that implementation meets the goals and objectives described in the plan.

All of this is possible because SEC's foresters keep abreast of the latest technology through continuing education, membership in professional forestry organizations and maintaining appropriate registration and certification.  As members of the Association of Consulting Foresters and Society of American Foresters, our staff adheres to the high professional and ethical standards required for membership.
