Southwestern Environmental Consultants, Inc. (SEC) has been retained by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to develop a Master Trail Plan for an area of approximately 63 square miles outside of Wickenburg. The Master Plan will propose designated trail systems that include local and regional system linkages, identify trailhead locations and detail typical facilities. This Plan will also identify legal access, potential acquisition, and construction and implementation strategies. The BLM has been working closely for several years with the non-profit local resident group, Wickenburg Cultural and Conservation Foundation (WCCF). Over that time, the BLM and WCCF have worked closely together documenting existing trails and usage, identifying potential desirable corridors and have created the Preliminary Wickenburg Regional Trail Plan: Critical Corridors and Networks. SEC will continue that relationship in the updating, detail and finalization of the Plan by focusing on public participation and stakeholder input as the primary vehicle for plan creation. Additionally, the BLM and Maricopa County are working together on the Vulture Mountain Cooperative Recreation Management Area, which is located within the Wickenburg Community Master Trail Plan study area. There will be important opportunities for the public to provide input on the Community Master Trail Plan. Please participate when and where you can to show your support for connective trails that provide a scenic and safe place to recreate. At each public meeting, there will be maps that illustrate the existing and proposed trail network as well as additional data developed with the plan. Please check back often for meeting dates and survey questionnaires.
